　　这里说的语言类名词指的是English(英语)、Chinese(汉语)、Japanese(日语)、French(法语)、German(德语)、Italian(意大利语)、Spanish(西班牙语)、Russian(俄语)等。这些词在用法上具有以下特点：

　　1. 以上提到的语言类名词，原则上都是不可数名词，通常没有复数形式，通常也不连用不定冠词。如：

　　Spanish is her native language. 西班牙语是她的母语。

　　You will be examined in French and German. 你将要接受法文和德文的考试。

　　但若表示某种语言，有时也连用不定冠词。如：

　　He speaks an English that I can barely understand at all. 他说的英语，我简直听不懂。

　　表示不同种类的语言或某种语言的不同变体，则有时也用复数。如：

　　World Englishes 世界上英语的各种变体

　　2. 表示说某种语言时，一般与动词speak搭配，不能用动词say。如：

　　She speaks fluent Japanese. 她说一口流利的日语。

　　She speaks French and German and also a little Russian. 她会说法语、德语，还会说一点儿俄语。

　　有时也用动词talk，但不如用speak普通。如：

　　She can talk Spanish. 她能讲西班牙语。

　　3. 表示用某种语言，一般与介词in搭配，不能用介词with。如：

　　I once heard the song sung in Italian. 我曾听见人用意大利语唱这首歌。

　　He could now construct short sentences in Spanish. 他现在能用西班牙语说出简短的句子了。

　　4. 在通常情况下，语言类名词前一般不用物主代词。如：

　　我们说汉语。

　　误：We speak our Chinese.

　　正：We speak Chinese.

　　谁教你们法语?

　　误：Who teaches your French?

　　正：Who teaches you French?

　　但是，当语言名词表示某人使用语言的水平或能力时，可在其前用物主代词。如：

　　His French has really come on since last year. 他的法语从去年以来真的进步不小。

　　My German isn’t very good, but I got the general drift of what she said. 我的德语不太好，但她说的话我大致是明白的。

　　5. 在通常情况下，语言类名词前一般不用定冠词。如：

　　We need somebody to interpret from Russian into English. 我们需要一个把俄语口译为英语的人。

　　Once you have learned Spanish, you will find Italian easy. 一旦你学会西班牙语，你会觉得意大利语容易。

　　但是在以下情况，语言名词前通常要用冠词：

　　(1) 表特指意义时。如：

　　the English of Shakespeare 莎士比亚时代的英语

　　the English spoken in America and Canada 在美国和加拿大讲的英语

　　The English in this story has been simplified to make it easier to understand. 这个故事里的英语被简写了，可更容易理解。

　　(2) 表示某一语言中的对应词语时。如：

　　What’s the English for this? 这个东西用英语怎么说?

　　What is the English for the Chinese “Kuang Chuan Shui”? 中文的矿泉水英语怎么说?

　　(3) 在语言名词后加上 language 一词时。如：

　　The Chinese language has many idioms. 汉语有很多惯用语。

　　Many foreign words have passed into the English language. 有很多外来词已成为英语的一部分。
